[Undernourished children everywhere in Somalia]
Meanwhile, the UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) has announced plans to immunize about 100,000 internally displaced people, comprising women and children.
Most children to be immunized are under the age of five, while the women are those who have been indirect migration targets of the ensuing violence. This immunization campaign planned in three phases is being implemented with a few UNICEF partners in Somalia.
[The camp life, away from homes]
More than a tenth of the country’s population is living in camps, away from their regular homes.
For a long time now, the health facilities in this nation have been hit badly, the prime reason being violence. Poor sanitation, rapidly spreading diseases, high infant mortality, low women nutritional levels, hunger, poverty and human right abuses have all become part of daily life. Thankfully, the UNICEF has not taken a step back in its effort to deliver relief and health services to the displaced souls. Also, WHO and UNICEF have together planned to deliver critical vaccines and nutritional supplements to children and women.
